Your role is important

  • An estimated 24.7 million children (33%) live absent their biological father.

  • Of students in grades 1 through 12, 39 percent (17.7 million) live in homes absent their biological fathers.

  • Fatherlessness is the most significant family or social problem facing America.

  • 85% of youths sitting in jail grew up in a home without a father.

  • Children who grow up without a father are more than twice as likely to drop out of high school.

  • Statistics show that if a father attends church the rest of the family is far more likely to attend church as well - Check out this article HERE on the importance of a Father being a spiritual Leader when it comes to Church attendance/involvement.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
    And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
    and to walk humbly with your God.”

Micah 6:8

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,

for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

Read the Bible with your wife

Reading the Bible with your wife is awesome. If it’s not a regular habit of yours, it might feel tough at first. But being on the same page (pun intended) with your spouse diving into the word of God is SO powerful. You as a leader need to be the one who decides to take this challenge. Pull out your Bible everyday and start with James. (You’ll be going right along with our current series “sticks & Stones”) Read a chapter each day together perhaps in the morning or before you go to bed.

Pray with your kids

If you read the stats at the top of this page then you know as a father your spiritual leadership is important. One of the most powerful ways to lead in this area is to pray with your family. You gather to eat - pray. Before you put your kids to bed - pray. Thank God for all that you have and show them what it looks like to be a man under the authority of our Lord & Savior each and every day.

Volunteer

Jesus modeled servant leadership for us - and we as Leaders are to model it for our families. Volunteering at your Church is an excellent way to be an example in this area. You will never know the power/impact it has on your child for them to see you get down on your hands and knees and clean up someone else spill, to pick up trash that isn’t yours, to help someone who can’t help you back.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

 Honor your father and mother—

Fathers, do not exasperate your children;

instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Ephesians 6:1-4 1

DEUTERONOMY 6:6-9 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

PSALM 103:13 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

PROVERBS 3:11-12 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.

PROVERBS 14:26 26 Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.

PROVERBS 4:1-2 Listen to my correction, my sons, for I speak to you as your father. Let discernment enter your heart and you will grow wise with the understanding I impart. My revelation-truth is a gift to you, so remain faithful to my instruction.

3 JOHN 1:4 It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth!

DEUTERONOMY 20:4 For the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,

and for their children it will be a refuge.”

Proverbs 14:26
