This an update regarding the current weather conditions and our safety protocols for Camp Tejas in Giddings, Texas.
As we continue through the camp season, as always, we are closely monitoring all rainfall and weather developments in the area. Our team is actively tracking updates from the National Weather Service to ensure we are informed and prepared for any changes in weather conditions.
My name is Marc Davis, and I serve as the Director of Risk and Safety at New Hope. Please know that the safety and well-being of your students is our highest priority. In the event of any signs of flooding on the property, we have a comprehensive plan in place to move all students to the highest points on the campgrounds immediately.
There are a few ponds on the Camp Tejas property that naturally drain into Hobbs Creek, which runs along the outer edges of the camp. While Hobbs Creek did rise above its banks in 2002, there are no publicly documented reports of Camp Tejas itself experiencing flooding. Additionally, Camp Tejas is located in Lee County, which is generally less prone to the kind of catastrophic flash flooding seen in other parts of Central Texas, such as the Hill Country.
That said, we remain vigilant. If you have further questions or concerns about sending your student to Camp Tejas, we encourage you to consult the following resources:
FEMA Flood Map Service Center for local floodplain maps
Lee County Emergency Management updates
Camp Tejas’ official website or social media for weather-related announcements
We are committed to transparency and proactive communication throughout your student’s time at camp.
As we remain watchful and prepared, we also place our trust in God’s protection and guidance. As 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” And in Proverbs 3:5-6, we are encouraged to *“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him”.
